Dal belvedere di San Gennaro Agnano siamo saliti alla Solfatara, ancora a Pozzuoli. Tra i 40 vulcani che ci sono nei Campi Flegrei, credo che sia l'unico che ha un campeggio proprio nell'interno del cratere. Questo fatto da solo attirarebbe giŕ la nostra attenzione, ma quando Tonino ci ha detto che il cratere era ancora attivo -in stato quiescente sarebbe la definizione piů esatta- ho cominciato a avere dubbi sulla salute mentale degli ospiti del campeggio... Questo stato quiescente significa che ce un'attivitŕ continua di bassa intensitŕ come possono essere le fumarole di anidride solforosa, getti di fango bollente ed una elevata temperatura del suolo. Nonostante ciň, non vi dovete preoccupare: la Solfatara di Pozzuoli sarebbe la valvola di sicurezza che permetterebbe che la pressione del magma presente sotto i Campi Flegrei rimanga costante... Che alleviamento!!!

Still in Pozzuoli, we went from San Gennaro to the Solfatara. Among the 40 volcanoes existing in the Phlegraean Fields, I think this is the only one that hosts a camping inside the crater. This fact alone would be interesting enough, but when Tonino told me that the volcano was still active -dormant would be a better definition- I began to have doubts about the camping guests' mental health. Dormant means that it emits jets of sulphurous steam or fumaroles and the ground temperature is high enough to boil the mud. Nonetheless, don't worry: the Solfatara of Pozzuoli would be something like a security valve that allows the pressure of magma underneath the Phlegraean Fields to remain constant... What a relief!!!
